OAT2022 Events and social activities

Following the Field Day to York, the OAT2022 team looks forward to welcoming you to the conference on the Monday evening. This will be an informal meet and greet and a chance to see where the Conference will take place. Canapes and beverages will be served from 6 to 7pm. Feel free to drop in for a chat and to ask any questions you may have.

The Official 11th International Oat Conference Dinner is a well attended event during the conference. The OAT2022 team looks forward to bringing you an evening of entertainment, good food and great company.

Pre-dinner drinks will be held from 6.30 to 7pm in the Crown Ballroom 1 Foyer with the Dinner commencing from 7pm and concluding around 10pm.

Attendees are welcome to register additional guests to attend the dinner.

Join fellow OAT2022 attendees and attend the Oat Field Day followed by local tour options around York, Western Australia

Hosted by the Grain Industry Association of Western Australia, the Oat Field Day is an optional addition to the OAT2022 conference. Attendees will visit oat trial sites located in York, approximately 1.5 hours east of Perth.

An Australian themed lunch “in the paddock” will be provided, and after lunch, international and interstate attendees will have the option to take a guided tour of the nearby Gilmac oat hay exporting business or explore the historic township of York.

What to bring: sun hat, light jacket, comfortable shoes.

Visit Fremantle – the popular port city and experience the maritime history and its buzzing cafe and arts culture.

There’s plenty of things to do in Fremantle such as enjoy a walk through the historic Fremantle precinct and lunch at one of the specialty seafood family restaurants or nearby cafes.  Consider a visit to the world-class Shipwrecks Museum or WA Maritime Museum. Or feast your eyes while you hunt out your favourite WA momento at the local indigenous art galleries and visitor shops.

A range of local transport options will comfortably return you to the conference venue precinct, taking (approximately 30 to 60 minutes).  Or you could take a scenic one-way river cruise from Elizabeth Quay Perth to Fremantle, departing at 11:00, duration 1hr15m, AUD34.

Located 19 kilometres off the coast of Perth, Rottnest Island offers visitors stunning landscapes, unique wildlife – including the famous ‘selfie’ Quokka – and a rich history.

Ferries depart regularly from Perth’s Barrack Street Jetty, Fremantle and Hillarys Boat Harbour. There is also a range of tour options available to explore the island and learn more about Rottnest’s rich local flora, fauna and cultural heritage.

Visit the Swan Valley – a short 35 minute drive from the Perth CBD, is where you can visit the oldest wine region in Western Australia. The Swan Valley boasts many wineries, cafes, gourmet food options and boutique breweries.

There are many tour options available so check out Perth Tourist Centre for more information or you could rent a car and drive yourself.

Open every day of the year from 9am to 5pm, the Perth Zoo is a short trip across the Swan River from the Perth CBD (same side of the Swan River as Crown Perth) and can be easily accessed by public transport, on bike, foot or by car.

Hillarys Boat Harbour is situated right on the water’s edge with a family friendly ‘bathing beach’. Sit and watch the boats coming in and out the harbour or visit one of the many boutique stores, delicious dining destinations and awesome adventure experiences – day or night – there’s lots to love about Hillarys. Hillarys is only 20 minutes drive from the Perth CBD.

Without having to travel too far from the Perth CBD, Perth has some stunning beaches to visit and dip your toes in. Some of our favourites include Cottesloe Beach, City Beach, Scarborough Beach, all with cafes and restaurants nearby.
